 The Faculty was renamed the Faculty of Education and Welfare Science when it was restructured in 1999. The Faculty of Education continues to exist alongside the new Faculty for the time being.The Faculty of Education and Welfare Science has the following three Courses, each with subsidiary courses.In the School Education Course, there are three sub-courses:Human Development and Education, consisting of pedagogy, educational psychology and preschool education; Special Education; and Subject Teaching, consisting of Japanese language, social studies,mathematics, science, music, art, physical education, technical studies, home economics and English language. The Computer Science, Society and Culture Course has three sub-courses: Society and Culture Studies; Information Science ; and General Artistic Expression, including art, music, and physical expression. The Human Society and Welfare Science Course has three sub-courses: Social Welfare; Mental and Physical Studies for Welfare, consisting of a)psychology and b)sports and health sciences; and Domestic and Environmental Studies for Welfare, consisting of domestic science and environmental science. Students belong to one of the three Courses and study relevant subjects within the Course.

 The purpose of the Faculty is to produce people who commit themselves to welfare who can work effectively to create a caring community in a well developed society.
The aim of the Teacher Training Course is designed to produce teachers who are highly qualified in the field of education and possess skills for cultivating the minds of pupils.
The Computer Science, Society and Culture Course gives students the skills to adapt to an international and information oriented society, while being able to develop local culture.The aim of the Human Society and Welfare Science Course is to foster a“social-welfare-minded”work force with a deeper insight into human existence, which has a spirit of cooperation to realize welfare in society.
 The Graduate School of Education has two MA courses in school education and in subject teaching (Japanese language, social studies, mathematics, science, music, art, physical education, technological studies, home economics, and English language). Individual departments run programs in methodology and practice, and have been providing students with opportunities to develop higher and professional skills necessary for educational research and training in the field of school education.
 Also, Psychological Educational Counseling Office was established to do counseling and researches on psychology, development and education and to coutribute to the local community.
 The attached institutions under the control of the Faculty are Center for Research in Education and Human Development and the Education and Research Center, and Nakatsue Training Institute for Regional Education. The attached schools are Kindergarten, Primary School, Junior High School and Special needs Education School (School for Physically Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children).
